True my career path looks like a bit of a global adventure – 23 years
deep in international production and editing, with some fantastic,
award-winning projects landing on major networks. Then there's
the whole teaching thing, from sparking creativity in young minds to
guiding adults through Media Literacy and editing. Sure, it might
seem like two separate worlds – media and education – but for me,
they've been incredible journeys that I've had the time and privilege
to really dive into. Now, I'm at this exciting point where bringing those
two passions together feels like exactly where I'm meant to be.
At my core, I'm a media person – a video editor and producer who
gets a real kick out of crafting compelling stories, whether it's through
the lens of a documentary, the scroll of digital content,
or the guidance I offer in a classroom and even a sonic journey
through a transporting DJ set. I'm all about those post-production
workflows, geeking out a bit over Adobe Premiere Pro and After
Effects to shape narratives that grab you. What really drives me is the
power of a well-told story, and I thrive when I'm bouncing ideas off
others, maybe even helping someone else find their creative voice.
When I'm not immersed in the media world, you'll likely find me lost
in writing poetry or digging for the perfect beat to weave into a DJ
set for my crew – friends, family, and my Brooklyn community of
artists and adventurers. That first gig in radio back in Nairobi? It
still holds a special place.
And honestly, the explosion of African music right now, especially
Afro House and Pop, just electrifies me. Growing up in Kenya, that
energy is part of my soul, and I love finding ways to share it –
whether it's through a DJ mix, a piece of art, or the way I connect
with students in a classroom and organizing a wilderness
excursions for US families to experience the healing
balm or an East Africa Safari.
